49ers Are In Peyton Manning Sweepstakes, According To Report

So all that stuff about the Tennessee Titans and Denver Broncos being the only two remaining teams in the race for Peyton Manning? Forget about it. There's actually a third team — the San Francisco 49ers. ESPN's Chris Mortensenreports 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh worked Manning out this week and the former Colts QB went through a physical with San Francisco. He has not visited the 49ers facility, according to the report.

The 49ers were speculated as a potential Manning landing spot but it wasn't much more than speculation until now. San Francisco was believed to be working on a contract with incumbent QB Alex Smith, but the two sides haven't come to an agreement. Sounds like Peyton Manning is the reason they haven't agreed to a deal yet.

The 49ers have long been viewed as one of the best fits for Manning. With the addition of Randy Moss last week, the 49ers receivers may not be the weakness we once thought they were. San Francisco made it to the NFC Championship game last season so if winning is a priority for Manning, the 49ers are as good of a choice as any.

Previous reports said Manning preferred to play in the AFC but he was open to the NFC. His brother, Eli, is in the NFC with the New York Giants.
