Floyd Mayweather Jr. has Saul "Canelo" Alvarez as his next opponent, scheduled for a Sept. 14 bout in Las Vegas. The undefeated boxer announced on Twitter Wednesday night that the fight is set and will be held at the MGM Grand.
Canelo has been "the guy" for Mayweather to fight for some time now, but was passed over for Robert Guerrero earlier in May. Mayweather (44-0, 26 KOs) easily dispatched Guerrero, winning a 12-round unanimous decision after a year's absence from the ring. Mayweather looked as though he hadn't missed any time at all, which prompted fans to clamor for a tougher challenge for him.
And at this point, Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KOs) seems to be that tougher challenge. He's never lost in the ring, though he did fight to a draw in his sixth fight. His last fight was a 12-round unanaimous decision win over Austin Trout held on April 20.
