Belmont Stakes 2013: Orb to run last leg of Triple Crown

2013 Kentucky Derby winner Orb will run the Belmont Stakes, setting up a showdown with Preakness Stakes winner Oxbow.

Kentucky Derby winner Orb will run in the 2013 Belmont Stakes, setting up a duel with this year's Preakness Stakes winner Oxbow. Orb's status for the Belmont was unclear heading into Sunday, but trainer Shug McGaughey announced that his horse would run after a good workout Sunday morning.

McGaughey wanted to be cautious with his colt after Orb finished fourth in the Preakness. Though McGaughey had said that Orb was probable to run during the week, he didn't make a final determination until Sunday.

The matchup between Oxbow and Orb on Saturday should be a good one. Orb entered the Preakness as the odds-on favorite to win thanks to his impressive stretch run at Churchill Downs. Oxbow stole the show in Baltimore, however, taking the lead soon out of the gate and never relinquishing letting up despite his 15/1 odds.

Coverage for the Belmont will begin at 5 p.m. ET on NBC, with the race to start around 6:40. Official post time has yet to be determined.
