UFC Fight Night 54 - Live 'MacDonald vs Saffiedine' results and play-by-play

The UFC goes to Halifax for a card headlined by a welterweight bout between Rory MacDonald and Tarec Saffiedine this Saturday (October 4, 2014). Get complete, LIVE play-by-play UFC Fight Night 53: "Nelson vs. Story" results below!

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) closes out its day-night double header this Saturday evening (Oct. 4, 2014) from the Scotiabank Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada,

SB Nation will have live UFC Fight Night: MacDonald vs Saffiedine starting with the two preliminary card bouts scheduled for UFC Fight Pass at 7 p.m. ET, continuing through the 8 p.m. prelims on Fox Sports 2 before switching to Fox Sports 1 at 8:30 p.m (or following the end of the MLB playoff game) and finally the main card at 10 p.m., also on Fox Sports 1.

LIVE RESULTS:

Pedro Munhoz vs Jerrod Sanders - Round 1 - Leg kick from Munhoz, one in return from Sanders. Munhoz sprawled on a takedown attempt, he locks up a guillotine, Sanders attempts to slam his way out of it but can't and is forced to tap out.  Pedro Munhoz wins by submission (guillotine choke), 0:39 of Round 1.

Albert Tumenov vs Matt Dwyer - Round 1 -Early feeling out and Tumenov rips off a big head kick that lands flush and Dwyer crumbles to the canvas and this one is over! Two Fight Pass prelims, two quick finishes. Albert Tumenov wins by KO (head kick), 1:03 of round 1.

Patrick Holohan vs Chris Kelades - Round 1 - Holohan comes out and throws a series of head kicks that are blocked and now a good leg kick. Kelades catches a kick and is trying to score a single leg takedown. They go to the ground and it's Holohan on top, passing to side control but Kelades gets to his feet. Big right scores for Kelades and that hurt Holohan. Holohan with a good takedown again. Kelades gets back to his feet again and Holohan is pushing him into the cage before he scores another takedown. Holohan taking the back now. Body triangle from Holohan. Kelades throwing some punches at Holohan's face while Holohan tries to lock up a choke and this round is over. SBN scores that round 10-9 Holohan.

Round 2 -Holohan with an uppercut early. Kelades lands a leg kick before Holohan catches a kick and is working for the takedown again. Kelades throwing a lot of knees to the body know and they seem to be bothering Holohan at least a little bit. Holohan tries for a takedown but Kelades defends and he's on top, now Kelades into mount. A bit of a scramble and Kelades is trying to lock up a choke off his back but it looks like Holohan is okay. Holohan n top now working a bit but Kelades rolls him and uses that to get back to his feet. Slam from Kelades and he's back on top. Kelades into mount with ease. Kelades opening up with punches from mount as Holohan covers up. Kelades pounds away and then tries for an armbar as the round comes to a close. SBN scores that round 10-9 Kelades.

Round 3 - Body kick from Holohan and Kelades is coming forward. Kelades trying for a takedown but Holohan is defending well. Kelades does get him down now and he's trying to control positionally. Kelades now on top and trying for a kimura, but can't get it so he settles for landing some punches. SBN scores the round 10-9 Kelades, giving him a 29-28 win on our unofficial card.

Jason Saggo vs Paul Felder - Round 1 - Felder with a heavy leg kick. Saggo catches a kick and is working for the takedown. Felder with a choke attempt and then he lands a knee as he lets it go. The end up on the ground and Felder was on bottom, but eventually transitioned to the back and then ended up on top. SBN scores the round 10-9 Felder.

Round 2 - Saggo misses a head kick, Felder throws a kick and almost gets taken down but manages to keep upright. They go to the ground and Felder is on top. Felder is landing some really good punches and elbows from top before taking the back, but Saggo gets up and gets his own takedown. Felder able to stand up quickly. Saggo lands a few nice punches to end the round. SBN scores the round 10-9 Felder.

Round 3 - Saggo is the one who gets the takedown early this round and he does a little work before Felder gets back to his feet and then scores his own trip takedown to end up on top. Felder with a big right hand that lands flush but Saggo is able to reverse and end up on top. Saggo lands a flying knee and Felder is hurt badly. Saggo pouring it on, now goes for the armbar as the round ends. SBN scores the round 10-9 Saggo and the fight overall 29-28 Felder, but 29-28 Saggo wouldn't be horrible.

Olivier Aubin Mercier vs Jake Lindsey - Round 1 - Lindsey moving around the outside while OAM presses forward. They exchange missed head kicks. Body kick from OAM. Right hand by OAM lands and causes some damage to Lindsey's face. Big strikes from OAM now. Lindsey is trying to get off, but OAM is landing good shots and now he grabs a body lock and takes Lindsey down. SBN scores the round 10-9 for Aubin-Mercier.

Round 2 - Lindsey defends well against an early takedown attempt. OAM throwing some punches around the defense of Lindsey now. Left hands landing well for OAM now. Heavy left from OAM. Uppercut from OAM and he's looking for a takedown now. Takedown from OAM and now he locks up an armbar and this one is over. Olivier Aubin Mercier wins by submission (armbar), 3:22 of Round 2.

Daron Cruickshank vs Anthony Njokuani - Round 1 - Leg kick by Njokuani and Cruickshank is looking for a takedown. Cruickshank throwing some spinning kicks but misses. Two punches from Njokuani but Cruickshank takes him down. Njokuani manages to get back to his feet but does eat a knee to the body. Body punch by Cruickshank, one in return from Njokuani. Takedown by Cruickshank and SBN scores that round 10-9 Cruickshank.

Round 2 - Njokuani with a good jab. Cruickshank misses another head kick. Cruickshank lands a nice flying knee and then picks Njokuani up, walks him across the cage and slams him to the mat. Cruickshank gets a warning for throwing a knee that the ref deemed illegal and they're restarted on the feet. Njokuani coming forward throwing some good kicks but Cruickshank takes him down and lands a few punches. Another good round for Cruickshank.

Round 3 - Cruickshank with a big overhand right. Njokuani is confused and it's keeping him from doing much offensively. Cruickshank is doing plenty to win these rounds. Another takedown for Cruickshank and with just over a minute left, that should do it. Njokuani gets back to his feet but no time to do anything as this ends and this should be an easy 30-27 for Cruickshank.

Mitch Gagnon vs Roman Salazar - Round 1 - Salazar moving a lot but Gagnon manages to land a big left. Now a takedown for Gagnon. Gagnon takes the back and now he's locking up the rear naked choke. Salazar is standing with Gagnon on his back and the choke locked in. Salazar falls to the canvas and is forced to tap. Mitch Gagnon wins by submission (rear naked choke), 2:06 of round 1.

Nordine Taleb vs Li Jingliang - Round 1 - Li throws a right and Taleb counters with a head kick. Another leg kick for Taleb lands. They trade jabs now. Li flurries while Taleb looks for a good spot to attack. Taleb has suffered a few cuts. Jab by Taleb lands. Li with another big flurry and then a good takedown but Taleb bounces right back up. Taleb keeps landing jabs and they're effective, but Li has the bigger, more exciting looking forrence. Both men bloody as the round ends.

Round 2 -Li's face is starting to swell up from the jab now. Taleb with a good right hand counter. Good right hand by Taleb. Li keeps pushing forward but it is Taleb who is doing better work with counters this round. Taleb catches him with a good right hand and slips the return fire. Takedown by Taleb. Good round for Taleb as he's taking this fight over.

Round 3 - Li lands a few nice jabs, Taleb is being very patient now. Taleb with a takedown and Li is trying very hard to not get put fully on his back. Li is on is back now, holding Taleb in his guard and Taleb is letting go with punches and elbows. Taleb should probably have taken all three rounds, but certainly took the last two, a decision win should be incoming.

Elias Theodorou vs Bruno Santos - Round 1 -Theodorou pushing Santos into the cage pretty early on. Theodorou tries for a takedown, can't get it and lands an uppercut. Theodorou landing a lot of knees to the body but gets taken down by Santos. Back to the feet easily. Santos does land a nice right hand to close the round, but should be one in the books for Theodorou.

Round 2 -Santos with a left hand and Theodorou lands an uppercut and pushes Santos back into the cage. Santos did end the round on Theodorou's back, but wasn't able to get a finish.Still, Theodorou did well in the clinch that round.

Round 3 - Theodorou scores a takedown this round for the first time after pushing for it several times earlier in the fight. Santos able to get up, but again is taken down. Theodorou is wearing him out with the grinding clinch work. Santos back to his feet. Another takedown for Theodorou and he's putting a stamp on the fight. Pass to full mount by Theodorou with more than two minutes left. Santos survives and gets back to his feet but eats a headkick for his trouble. Knee to the body by Theodorou hurts Santos.

Official scorecards: 29-28 x3. Elias Theodorou wins by unanimous decision.

Chad Laprise vs Yosdenis Cedeno - Round 1 - Laprise with some leg kicks while Cedeno looks to move around the outside of the cage. Cedeno misses with a right hand while Labrise keeps working the leg kicks. Right hand from Laprise lands. Laprise with a takedown. Laprise passing to half guard. Laprise does manage to get to back control but Cedeno spins and ends up on top. Laprise manages to get back to his feet. Cedeno with a right hand and the round ends, almost certainly in Laprise's favor.

Round 2 - Laprise coming out and looking to get back to work by putting Cedeno's back on the cage. Laprise continually backing him up or pressing him into the cage where Cedeno seems frustrated and ineffective. Takedown by Laprise. Cedeno tries to scramble to his feet and ends up giving up the back. Cedeno manages to spin once again and is on top again. Cedeno does nothing with top position, should be 2-0 Laprise.

Round 3 - Laprise is landing a lot of leg kicks now. Laprise with some good punches now and Cedeno is swelling below his eye. Takedown by Laprise. Laprise really made his mark with the last round, made it clear he deserves to have his hand raised.

Official scorecards: 30-27 x3. Chad Laprise wins by unanimous decision.

Raphael Assuncao vs Bryan Caraway - Round 1 - Caraway coming forward and Assuncao throws a few leg kicks. Low blow by Assuncao but Caraway says it's fine and they continue. Assucao's leg kicks have Caraway's leg badly marked up through half a round. Assuncaao also landing some nice punches. Caraway with two nice punches. Elbow by Assuncao. Right hand by Caraway. Assuncao with a takedown attempt but Caraway doesn't quite let him finish. Caraway clipped and bleeding as the round ends. Easy 10-9 for Assuncao on our card.

Round 2 -Right hand lands for Assuncao. Assuncao is battering Caraway's legs with kicks, but Caraway did manage to land a good head kick, Assuncao took it though. Head kick for Assuncao. Spinning heel kick to the head by Assuncao. They open up to close the round and another round for Assuncao.

Round 3 - Assuncao throwing a lot of right hands now. Leg kick by Assuncao lands heavy again. Jab lands for Assuncao. Caraway with some knees to the body. Caraway with some nice takedown defense. Assuncao looking pretty clearly tired at this point, but is on his way to a decision win barring bad judging. Assuncao almost finished with a guillotine but Caraway did a good job of twisting and spinning his way out of it. Assuncao should have this safely on the scorecards but Caraway walks away with his arms raised after the third.

Official scorecards: 30-27 x3. Rafael Assuncao wins by unanimous decision.

Rory MacDonald vs Tarec Saffiedine - Round 1 - MacDonald is pushing forward but Tarec is standing his ground and trying to keep from getting pushed to the cage. Leg kick by Saffiedine. Good leg kicks from MacDonald in return. They exchange strikes and MacDonald catches a kick and scores a nice takedown but it only lasts a brief time before Saffiedine gets back to his feet. They're still trading some pretty heavy leg kicks.

Round 2 - Three punch combination for MacDonald is a nice early moment in the round, Tarec landed one punch during the flurry. Still a very legkick heavy round, both men landing some solid kicks. Good right hand lands for MacDonald and that caught Saffiedine's attention.

Round 3 - They're out and trading leg kicks again. Saffiedine is upping the volume on his leg kicks now though. Left hand from MacDonald drops Saffiedine and some follow up shots and the ref is forced to jump in. Saffiedine is unable to stand up after the stoppage, he was very badly hurt by that finishing flurry. Rory MacDonald wins by TKO (punches), 1:28 of Round 3.
