Fantasy football rankings, Week 8: Wide receivers for standard, PPR leagues

Percy Harvin was traded. The 49ers and Giants are off this week. Calvin Johnson and A.J. Green are injured. Our rankings will help you deal with all these situations.

Demaryius Thomas absolutely crushed it in Week 7. He is on a tear over the last few weeks and should be able to continue his roll this week against the San Diego Chargers.

Among the other top receivers for Week 7 were Sammy Watkins and Golden Tate. Watkins has really come on with Kyle Orton at quarterback. With the injuries in the backfield, look for Buffalo to continue targeting the speedy rookie. Since Calvin Johnson has been out, Matthew Stafford is looking to Tate as his new favorite target. I think Tate will have a great day against the Atlanta Falcons in London this week. Megatron might play, but Tate will still be a big part of the game plan.

The two teams on bye are the San Francisco 49ers and the New York Giants. We'll be without Michael Crabtree, Anquan Boldin, Rueben Randle and Odell Beckham Jr. in Week 8. Both these teams could use some fine-tuning for their passing games. Hopefully they use the extra time to improve and get a jump start on the second half of the season.

The Percy Harvin trade was big news. I believe he'll be used a lot by the Jets but that's not saying much. The Jets lack weapons in the passing game and the trade probably helps Eric Decker more than it does Harvin. Defenses will have to respect the game-breaking aspect that Harvin brings, which should give Decker more opportunities to face weaker coverage. In Seattle, we already saw that Doug Baldwin got a boost and I think that will carry through for the rest of the season. It remains to be seen if any others will see a boost or if Seattle will stick to a heavy ground game.

Fantasy Rankings: QB RB WR TE D/ST

Calvin Johnson and A.J. Green remained sidelined in Week 7, but they both might be close to returning. Green seems to be frustrated by his inactivity and may play this week. His injury seems to have improved and he could give it a go despite being less than 100 percent. Johnson is traveling to London with the Detroit Lions, but he's probably not going to suit up for Sunday's game. Detroit has the bye in Week 9, so he could have two more weeks of rest by skipping this week's game. DeSean Jackson had to come out of the game against Tennessee because of a knee injury. He was able to return, but it's something to keep an eye on.

For sleepers, I liked the spark that Martavis Bryant brought to the Pittsburgh Steelers' passing game on Monday night. He's very raw, but his size and speed are indicators of fantasy gold. I would stash him and see if he integrates himself further into the Pittsburgh gameplan. Allen Robinson continues to impress in Jacksonville. The Jaguars are almost always playing from behind, which results in massive targets and receptions for Robinson. If you're looking for an injury or bye week fill-in, you could do a lot worse than Robinson.
