A week after losing running back Dion Lewis for the season, the New England Patriots suffered another blow Sunday, as wide receiver Julian Edelman suffered a broken left foot in the team's 27-26 win over the New York Giants. Edelman will reportedly have surgery on the foot Monday.

Before leaving the game Sunday, Edelman had four catches for 53 yards. For the season, he has 61 catches, 692 yards and seven scores. Edelman has only played 16 games one season in his career, in 2013; he's missed time in all his other seasons.

Fantasy impact: ESPN's Adam Schefter reported late Sunday that Edelman will have his surgery Monday and there is reportedly "hope" he will return this season. It seems likely that Edelman will miss at least the majority of the rest of the regular season, and it's quite possible he's done at least until the playoffs.

Edelman has filled a big part of the role once held by Wes Welker during his time in New England. The team had originally signed Danny Amendola to fill that role, and that's what is likely to happen now with Edelman out. The team's new big three of pass-catchers will be Amendola, Brandon LaFell and Rob Gronkowski. Amendola has a fairly extensive injury history himself, but for the time being, he's a must-add in all formats, and will immediately become a WR2 or so.
