The newest member of the Diamondbacks clubhouse is a pet hamster

New, comment

Josh Collmenter decided to buy a hamster and let it roam in his team's clubhouse.

Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Josh Collmenter is somehow allowed to have a hamster, aptly name named "Slider," run around his team's clubhouse. That amusing, bizarre tidbit was revealed Tuesday evening.

"Something just rolled into my office when I was doing my work," Diamondback manager Chip Hale said told MLB.com. "I didn't know what was going on. I went into my bathroom and there was this hamster or something rolling around in a ball."

Collmenter apparently brought the hamster on Monday, and realized it was freaking out his teammates and coaches by running around freely. So he wisely put "Slider" in a ball.

"The hamster ball was a nice addition today so now I don't have to worry about losing track of her when she's running around," Collmenter said.

With the Diamondbacks needing an almost perfect September to win the NL West division, maybe Slider could be a perfect foil to their division rivals, the Dodgers and Giants.
