Evil Geniuses win The International Dota 2 Championship 2015

USA won its first International on the back of a team that faced adversity.

Cheers of "USA ... USA" echoed through Seattle's KeyArena. Thousands cheered for Evil Geniuses, and now the USA can claim that it has joined the annals of nations that have won The International Dota 2 Championships. The Grand Finals were a thrilling four-game slugfest that saw CDEC Gaming of China push the American team to the limit -- but there could only be one champion.

The difference between Evil Geniuses and CDEC Gaming was razor thin. In past years we've seen a clear favorite jump out to a lead, but this was the closest series since Alliance and Na'Vi fought a five game-series in 2013. This was The International Grand Finals that fans deserved.

Each team's path to the finals perfectly represented what the tournament is all about. Evil Geniuses were highly regarded, but had a lot of adversity prior to this year's tournament. They lost two talented players to Team Secret during the "Great Western Shuffle" of 2014, but found a budding new superstar in Suma1L. The 16-year-old from Pakistan moved to the USA to chase his dream of playing professional Dota, and found a home with Evil Geniuses and under the wing of veteran Fear.

It's extremely exciting to see USA win The International, but immense amounts of credit need to go to CDEC Gaming. This was a team nobody expected anything out of, and they fought their way from a Wild Card spot, tore through the Upper Bracket and beat every single team they faced -- including Evil Geniuses in the Upper Bracket Finals. This team arrived in Seattle as a fourth-tier Chinese team, but they leave being regarded as one of the best in the world.

Evil Geniuses weren't just representing America, they were America. This team fought their way though everything they faced and consistently did so with a good attitude and professionalism. In the past Evil Geniuses have looked like a group of excellent individuals, but this year they were truly a team.

Congratulations to ppd, Suma1L, UNiVeRsE, Fear and Aui_2000. They are Evil Geniuses, The International 2015 Champions.
