Cam Newton injury update: Panthers QB questionable vs. Saints [Update]

The Panthers need Cam Newton back ASAP after their 1-4 start this season.

Editor’s update: Cam Newton cleared to start, per Adam Schefter.

The Carolina Panthers are listing Cam Newton as questionable to play vs. the New Orleans Saints in Week 6. Newton did practice fully on Friday, but still needs to gain final clearance from a neurologist as he recovers from a concussion.

The injury occurred in Carolina’s Week 4 loss to the Atlanta Falcons. Newton did not clear the NFL’s concussion protocol in time to play in Monday’s loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and it’s unclear if he will start this week.

Carolina started Derek Anderson in Week 5, and he will go again if Newton is out this Sunday.

Fantasy Impact: Newton is the sixth-leading fantasy scorer among quarterbacks in terms of points per game. He now faces a Saints defense allowing the 14th-most fantasy points to quarterbacks this season.

If Newton is active this week, keep him in your starting lineup, but have a backup ready to go just in case.
