Fantasy football start/sit advice, Week 6: Should Matt Forte sit the bench this week?

New York’s running back has seen his production continue to fall in recent weeks. We explore the fantasy implications.

If the first two weeks of the 2016 season were any indication, it seemed like New York Jets running back Matt Forte was going to have a big role with the team this year.

But since averaging just under 30 touches in his first two games of 2016, Forte has only averaged around 16 touches per game over the past three weeks. Coincidentally, Jets backup running back Bilal Powell has seen his involvement in the offense increase during the last three games.

Fantasy Impact: With no touchdowns in four of the past five weeks, Forte is becoming an enigma in the world of fantasy football. He is still getting the opportunities to make plays in each game, but the production just is not there this season.

This week, New York and its running back will be facing off against the Arizona Cardinals. The Cardinals’ defense is not the toughest in the league against the run, but they have not allowed an opposing running back to rush for 100 yards or more in 15 of their last 17 regular season games.

Yahoo! still thinks Forte could have a productive game versus Arizona with 83 total yards on 19 touches, but still no trips to the end zone. If a fantasy owner feels he has a running back on his or her roster that has a better matchup this week, it may be a good idea to consider sitting Forte at least for this game.
