Fantasy football start/sit advice, Week 7: Jordan Matthews has a tough matchup on Sunday

The talented Eagles wide receiver will be facing a very stout Vikings pass defense this week. We explore the fantasy implications.

Since having a great game to open the 2016 season (seven catches, 114 yards, one touchdown), Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Jordan Matthews has been rather quiet in the world of fantasy football. The Eagles’ young receiver will be attempting to avoid being held out of the end zone for three straight games this Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings.

The Vikings have only allowed two receiving touchdowns all year, so Matthews’ task this weekend will certainly be a tall one.

Fantasy Impact: Through five games in 2016, Matthews is leading Philadelphia in targets, catches, receiving yards, yards per catch, and touchdown catches. That may seem good at first sight, but later finding out that the Eagles’ passing offense ranks 26th in the NFL this year takes a little steam out of the wide receiver’s achievements in 2016.

On the flip side, Minnesota’s defense ranks at the top in a number of different passing-related categories this season, including yards per attempt, completion percentage, and yards per game.

Yahoo! is not projecting Matthews to do much against the Vikings on Sunday with just five catches for 61 yards. Fantasy owners should definitely be considering all options before starting the Philadelphia receiver this weekend.
