Fantasy football start/sit advice, Week 7: Vernon Davis could make some people happy on Sunday

Washington’s backup tight end will see more time on the field for the second-straight week due other teammates being injured. We explore the fantasy implications.

For the second week in a row, Washington will be without their star tight end Jordan Reed due to a concussion. In his absence, backup tight end Vernon Davis is expected to get the nod again as the team’s starter on Sunday against the Detroit Lions.

Davis started in place of Reed last week, and even though he only caught two passes, one of them happened to end up in the end zone for six points.

Fantasy Impact: Obviously Davis is not the player he once was when he had multiple double-digit touchdown seasons with the San Francisco 49ers. But as he showed last week, his size and experience in the league still makes him a viable threat in the red zone.

The fact that he gets to go against a Lions defense that has given up the third most fantasy points to opposing tight ends in 2016 should improve his chances of having a productive afternoon.

Yahoo! has projected the Washington tight end to finish Sunday with just three catches for 30 yards. But with his favorable matchup, fantasy owners should definitely consider starting the 11-year veteran this weekend.
