New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith had to leave their game Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens after taking a big hit on a sack by Ravens linebacker Matt Judon in the second quarter.
Smith got off to a great start in his first start since the 2014 season. He hit wide receiver Quincy Enunwa for a 69-yard touchdown pass to bring his team within three points at 10-7.
Smith was sent to the locker room and replaced by Ryan Fitzpatrick, who took over last year when Smith was out after being punched by teammate IK Enemkpali.
Fitzpatrick is the only option the Jets have at this point, with Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg both inactive. He was replaced by Smith last week after the Jets’ offense couldn’t get things going against the Arizona Cardinals.
While initially announcing that he was questionable to return, Smith was ruled out for the rest of the game by the team.
