Now that NFL teams are hitting their bye weeks, Blaine Gabbert could become a worthy fantasy football starter. However, that will not happen when the San Francisco 49ers host the Arizona Cardinals on Thursday Night Football.
Even in Chip Kelly's quarterback-friendly offense, Gabbert only ranks 29th in fantasy points per game among QBs. He now is facing a Cardinals defense allowing the 11th-fewest points to quarterbacks this season.
Arizona has also allowed just four passing scores this season, which is tied for the seventh-fewest of any team. Gabbert has only thrown for four scores in four games this season.
All of this serves as a clear sign to not play Gabbert this week.
Fantasy Impact: Yahoo! ranks Gabbert as the 29th-best quarterback in Week 5. He is not someone you should be starting outside of super-deep leagues where your starter is on a bye this week. You probably should not even bother to have him on your roster.
