The Arizona Cardinals will have a new man under center this week. With Carson Palmer out due to a concussion, Drew Stanton is starting vs. the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday Night Football.
Stanton last started for Arizona in 2014 in relief of an injured Palmer. It wasn’t pretty as Stanton threw for just seven touchdowns vs. five interceptions with a 78.7 passer rating, a 55 percent completion percentage, and an average of 203 passing yards per game in his eight starts that year.
That speaks to how big of a downgrade he will be in this offense. While his supporting cast is better now than it was in 2014, Stanton is still someone you should avoid in fantasy leagues.
Fantasy Impact: Yahoo! has Stanton ranked inside their top-25 quarterbacks for Week 5. He is facing a 49ers defense allowing the fourth-most fantasy points to quarterbacks over the past three weeks.
Still, the odds are against Stanton having a good game while making his first start of the year on a short week. Keep him on the bench this week.
