Danilo Gallinari of the Denver Nuggets is expected to miss an extended period of time after tearing two ligaments and spraining another in his right ankle, the Nuggets announced. He tore his Anterior Talofibular and Calcaneofibular ligaments and sprained a Deltoid ligament.
Gallinari injured the ankle on Friday against the Dallas Mavericks and underwent an MRI on Saturday.
It's more bad injury news for Gallinari, who was in the midst of a career year for the Nuggets. After he suffered a torn ACL at the end of the 2012-13 season, he missed all of the 2013-14 season. He was playing great basketball for the Nuggets this season, averaging a career-high 19.5 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. Gallinari, 27, is in the midst of his seventh season in the NBA. He has played for the New York Knicks as well.
The Nuggets are 23-37 this season, and now will be without Gallinari for an extended period of time. Will Barton will be expected to fill in the most for Gallinari.
