Kentucky Derby 2016 results: Full finishing order for Run for the Roses

Here are the full results for the 142nd running of the Kentucky Derby.

Nyquist won the 142nd running of the Kentucky Derby on Saturday at Churchill Downs, keeping pace with the early leader, Danzig Candy through the far turn before pushing hard in the final quarter mile to ultimately take the lead as the other horse fell behind. Gun Runner originally took the lead from Danzig Candy, and Exaggerator made a huge push down the final stretch.

But ultimately Nyquist, jockeyed by Mario Gutierrez and trained by Doug O'Neill, took the victory over Exaggerator and Gun Runner.

The 20-horse field was set and no scratches were made prior to the May 6 deadline, setting up an intriguing group that was always led by Nyquist, at least before the race actually got underway. Nyquist spent most of the build-up to the race as the favorite to win it, opening the morning of the race at 3-1 odds and moving to 2-1 as the race approached.

Exaggerator was 5-1 odds close to the race, holding up as the second favorite behind Nyquist, with Gun Runner behind him at 10-1 odds.

The race carried a guaranteed minimum gross pay of $2 million for the entrants. With an entry fee of $25,000 and a starting fee of $25,000, it's good to see the purse so high. The winner is guaranteed to receive $1.24 million, with second place earning $400,000 and third place earning $200,000.
