Nyquist held to form and won the 142nd running of the Kentucky Derby on Saturday at Churchill Downs. He held off late a late push from Exaggerator down the stretch.
The odds were firmly in Nyquist's favor, with 2-1 odds to win the race and being ridden by jockey Mario Gutierrez. This was Gutierrez's second Kentucky Derby win after riding I'll Have Another to victory in 2012. This is the second time Gutierrez has teamed with trainer Doug O'Neill and owner J. Paul Reddam to win the Run for the Roses.
