Phoenix Mercury guard Diana Taurasi picked up her seventh technical foul of the season on Wednesday, which will automatically suspend her for the team’s game against the San Antonio Stars on Saturday.

In the second quarter of a home game against the Washington Mystics, Taurasi was called for elbowing Stefanie Dolson in the stomach after she was hit with a tough screen. Taurasi remained in the game, which the Mercury won, 78-74.

The technical foul trouble is nothing new to Taurasi, who picked up her seventh in just 17 games three years ago, but the call left her upset enough to miss media locker room availability.

Playing without its star point guard for a game will be costly for Phoenix, which holds just a one-game lead over the Chicago Sky for the final playoff spot with just 12 games remaining in the regular season.

Taurasi will have to be careful as she’ll miss another game for every two more techs she picks up. That probably means no more staring at referees mid-shot on plays she thinks she was fouled on.

Even if it’s fun to watch and she keeps making them.
