Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest 2016 live stream: Time, TV schedule and how to watch online

Will Joey Chestnut take his title back from Matt Stonie?

The Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest, a Fourth of July tradition, will be held on Monday and once again it will likely come down to Joey Chestnut and recent rival Matt Stonie. Chestnut had won (and essentially popularized) the tournament for eight consecutive years before Stonie ended his winning streak in 2015.

Chestnut holds the record of 73.5 hot dogs eaten in 10 minutes, set in a qualifying event in June and beating his own record of 69 hot dogs eaten, which was set in 2013. Stonie didn't need to beat Chestnut's record to take home the title in 2015, eating 62 hot dogs to Chestnut's 60. Stonie is favored over Chestnut and is ranked as the top competitive eater in the world.

The women's competition is set for 10:50 a.m. ET and the men's for noon. You can stream it live on WatchESPN.Otherwise you'll have to wait for it to air tape-delayed at 3 p.m. on ESPN, following Wimbledon coverage.

In 2011, the competition began separating men and women competitors into their own competition. Sonya Thomas won the women's event three years in a row before Miki Sudo took it in 2014 with 34 hot dogs eaten and again in 2015 with 38 hot dogs eaten. Sudo will look to defend her crown once again for the women and Thomas will try and take back her crown as the two are once again ranked as the top two in the world.

The event is sanctioned by the International Federation of Competitive Eating and Major League Eating. The event requires qualification to participate, and the event contains $40,000 in total prize money. The first-place-finishing man and woman will each earn $10,000.

Competitors don't make top dollar in the sport, but the absolute top competitors can come out quite well, with roughly $400,000 available in prize money across dozens of events each year. Nathan's will be celebrating its 100th year in operation this year.
