Traveling light is a life achievement you unlock when you can stroll off a plane with just a carry-on and be fine for a week. NBC’s Johnny Weir doesn’t believe in this — not by a long shot.

The former figure skater-turned commentator packed NINE bags for Rio. Yes, nine, and he brought all of them to the airport. According to Airfare Watchdog the average price of extra baggage fees on U.S.-based flights is $75 per bag, with a $25 fee for the first. It can be as much as $100 per bag — but let’s stay on the low end. Also, we’ll assume every bag is the correct weight, which probably isn’t true.
That’s $1,250 in baggage fees alone on a return flight. Seriously though, who cares? Johnny Weir and broadcast partner Tara Lipinski are the best thing to happen to sports commentary in years and Johnny’s clothing is a part of what makes him so amazing. We shouldn’t live in a world where Weir has to wear the same outfit twice during his 14 days in Rio — and thankfully we don’t have to.
