Rob Gronkowski injury update: TE OUT for Patriots, fantasy owners

The New England Patriots’ tight end has been ruled out for the season opener. We breakdown fantasy implications.

New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski (hamstring) did not travel with the team to Arizona on Friday, and has since been downgraded to OUT for the team's Week 1 matchup against the Cardinals. He was limited in practice all week, and missed most of the preseason battling hamstring injury that he suffered in practice Aug. 15. Earlier in the week, the injury was described as week-to-week, which leaves his status in question for Week 2.

Fantasy Impact: Gronkowski is no stranger to playing through injuries. He has played through injuries off and on throughout his career. The upside to all this is we learned he would not play before Sunday lineups deadlines. The concern was that he would travel and be listed as questionable. Instead, we know he is out, which is all the more important given the Sunday Night Football kickoff. You can sit Gronkowski and consider alternatives. If you have Martellus Bennett, he becomes a must start.
