The Cleveland Browns placed quarterback Robert Griffin III on the injury reserved list Monday. RG3 left the team’s opener against the Philadelphia Eagles with an apparent shoulder injury after taking a big hit late in the fourth quarter. The team announced that tests confirmed Monday that the former Heisman Trophy winner fractured the coracoid bone in his left shoulder.
The injury does not appear to require surgery and the Browns will re-evaluate their starting QB in a month. Under the new NFL rules the Browns can designate one IR player to return this season. There is no word if Cleveland will use that designation for Griffin. Should they do so, RG3 would be eligible to return by Week 10.
Fantasy Impact: RG3, out, seems about right. Remember, he missed most of last season as a healthy inactive. It is unfortunate that his comeback is being cut short, but it’s not necessarily unexpected. Any owners that may have had RG3 should go ahead and place him waivers. Griffin is not worth consideration this season even if he can return in Week 10.
