You’ve probably yelled at your television at least once after seeing the following:
- Offense fumbles the ball
- Defender tries to grab the ball rather than falling on it
- Defender fails, offense manages to recover
It’s frustrating, sure. But if defenders didn’t sometimes try to scoop the ball and start running, we wouldn’t have fumble returns for touchdowns like this one from Marshall defensive lineman Ty Tyler.
Try to remember this the next time you’re mad at that lineman who couldn’t quite grab that ball cleanly. You’re not really upset that he tried. You’re upset that he didn’t do it as smoothly as Tyler.
