Bulls fans are still wrapping their heads around their team’s bizarre offseason

New, comments

After claiming they wanted to get younger, the Bulls signed Rajon Rondo and Dwyane Wade. Like all of you, Bulls fans are baffled.

We’ve come to the Chicago Bulls in our offseason team-by-team series, and everyone is confused. Dwyane Wade, Rajon Rondo AND Jimmy Butler? How is this supposed to work?

To help us vent about this odd mix, SBNation.com college hoops guru Ricky O’Donnell and Jason Patt of Blog a Bull and Today’s Fast Break join the show. Among the topics discussed:

  • Why did the Bulls sign Rondo and Wade? Was there any possible logic to forming that trio along with Butler, or did they just make it up on the fly? What were the alternatives?
  • How is Fred Hoiberg supposed to build an offense with enough spacing, movement and shooting to succeed?
  • What is Butler’s current standing with the franchise? Will he be empowered to lead even though his style was abrasive at times last year? Do the Bulls really believe this is his team?
  • The Bulls have some interesting young talent with Nikola Mirotic, Doug McDermott, Bobby Portis, Cristiano Felicio and others. How do they fit in?

We’re now done with the 14 lottery teams from last year. Next up: the Houston Rockets.
