Mizzou's Josh Augusta wants the Piesman Trophy, and now he's got a touchdown entry

He’s 6’4, 330, and HUNGRY FOR GLORY.

NCAA Football: South Carolina at Missouri Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

We’ve always kind of wondered how aware college football linemen are of our humble trophy. Are they lobbying their offensive coordinators for more chances to get their hands on the ball? Do they put in extra practice so they’ll be prepared to break a tackle and find daylight after an interception or fumble?

We don’t know how widely known the Piesman is throughout the sport, but we do know this: Missouri defensive lineman Josh Augusta really, really wants to win this sucker.

In addition to what he’s already done this season, Augusta plunged for this TD in the second half against Florida.

Previously, he’d gotten two carries, including this one against Eastern Michigan:

The play that really had people talking, however, was this one, which featured Augusta as lead blocker.

Now, technically, he didn’t qualify for the award with those, because they doesn’t feature Augusta himself as the ball carrier. Now he has, and we couldn’t be happier for him. Perhaps he’ll be chowing on some pie in New York this December?

We now know his public candidacy has a huge boost.
