Georgia just committed the nastiest targeting play we’ve seen all season

This one was ugly.

No. 19 Georgia is taking on Missouri in Columbia, and it just gave us one of the nastiest targeting hits we’ve seen all season. Georgia punted to Missouri in the fourth quarter, and the Tigers’ Jonathon Johnson fielded it from the Mizzou 36.

But UGA’s Kirby Choates tackled Johnson as he was fielding the punt. It appeared he led with a shoulder to the head against a defenseless player (which is targeting), and he was flagged for it.

The call for targeting was reviewed, and it was confirmed — Choates was then ejected, as is protocol. It looked like a clear call. Choates will also miss the first half of next week’s game at Ole Miss.
