Editor’s update: Charles is expected to make his debut in Week 3, per Adam Schefter.
The Kansas City Chiefs are listing Jamaal Charles as doubtful vs. the Houston Texans. Charles was limited in practice all week, so seeing he will not play in Week 2 is no real surprise.
Charles is recovering from a torn ACL suffered midway through the 2015 season. The Chiefs have been very cautious with his return, both because of his value to the team, and the fact Spencer Ware is more than capable of shouldering the load.
The Chiefs actually had Charles working with the scout team this week, which only further clouds his return and how much work he will get when he does play.
Fantasy Impact: You obviously will not start Charles this week, but do not even think about cutting him. Even if he misses several more games, his fantasy upside is still far too high to let go of.
However, Charles being out continues to make Ware a must-start, including this week vs. a tough Texans defense. Ware has shown he can have monster games running the ball or catching passes, so keep starting him as long as Charles is out.
