Fantasy football start/sit advice, Week 2: Gary Barnidge gets his favorite quarterback throwing him passes again

Cleveland’s breakout tight end from a year ago was the most productive in 2015 with Josh McCown under center for the Browns. We explore the fantasy implications.

Cleveland Browns tight end Gary Barnidge has been in the NFL for a total of eight years now. But it was not until last season that he became a true factor in his team’s offense.

Unknown if it had anything to do with the Browns’ new uniforms, but Barnidge exploded out of his shell in 2015 and hauled in a team-high nine touchdowns. His total amount of touchdown catches last year also tied the franchise’s all-time single-season record for touchdown receptions by a tight end with Hall-of-Famer Ozzie Newsome, who accomplished the feat in 1979.

Fantasy Impact: After laying a big fat goose egg in Week 1, Barnidge’s fantasy owners are hoping for at least a touchdown catch from the tight end on Sunday. Luckily for Barnidge, he gets to play with quarterback Josh McCown once again this weekend against the Baltimore Ravens.

In the eight games McCown played in last year for Cleveland, Barnidge caught 46 passes for 641 yards and six touchdowns. In the eight games without his favorite quarterback, the Browns’ tight end only caught 33 passes for 402 yards and three touchdowns.

Against the Ravens this Sunday, fantasy owners can expect Barnidge to likely get more than the two passing targets he had last week.
