Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said Friday that running back Jamaal Charles "is going to need a little time to work himself back," according to Chiefs’ beat writer Terez A. Paylor. The nine-year veteran has been out of commision since Week 5 of last season with an ACL injury. Currently, there is no word if Charles will be available for the Chiefs’ Week 1 matchup with the San Diego Chargers. Spencer Ware is expected to get the start for the Chiefs.
Charles is a fantasy catch-22. His production is usually outstanding when he is healthy. Unfortunately, Charles is injury prone. It may be a good thing that Charles will work his way back to his starting role slowly. Problem is, owners will not see good production from Charles early on and his return to being the top carrier in Kansas City is completely unknown. Owners should consider Charles for a flex role around Week 3 or 4 if he gets time on the field. If Charles stays healthy, he could work his way to a strong RB2 option by midseason.
