Spencer Ware is likely to be the starting running back for Kansas City, having worked with the first-team for the Chiefs all preseason. Ware is filling in as the top RB option while Jamaal Charles works his way back from an ACL injury. Charles’ expected return is unknown. Ware looks to have developed his receiving game as well. He caught eight passes in the preseason, two more than he had all of last year.
Ware is shaping up to have a lot of potential for fantasy owners. The third-year back will be the top carrier early on for Kansas City. If Charles reclaims the starting role, Ware will still get his fair share of touches in the Chiefs’ run-by-committee rushing game. Also, if Ware can become a legitimate passing threat out of the backfield, his fantasy value will just continue to rise. Fantasy owners should consider Ware a strong RB2 option.
