Fantasy football start/sit advice, Week 3: Julian Edelman a tough call vs. Texans

We could see Julian Edelman playing receiver and quarterback Thursday night. Still, his fantasy upside is pretty low this week.

Julian Edelman could be in for an expanded role in the New England Patriots' offense this week. With Jimmy Garoppolo possibly missing Thursday’s matchup with the Houston Texans, Edelman is preparing to be the backup quarterback, according to NFL.com reporter Ian Rapoport.

That means we may see Edelman, a former college quarterback, catching and throwing passes in certain packages on Thursday. He probably will stick to receiver as long as projected starting quarterback Jacoby Brissett is healthy.

Speaking of, Brissett is getting set to make his first NFL start, which makes Edelman an even shakier fantasy play this week than he already was. Having a third-round rookie throwing passes your way is not ideal for Edelman, but he has proven to be effective with whoever is his quarterback.

Fantasy Impact: Edelman is projected as the 33rd-ranked receiver in Week 3. Yahoo! projects him to catch around five passes for 52 yards and no scores. Edelman is also going against a stout Texans defense that has allowed the ninth-fewest fantasy points to receivers.

You should treat Edelman like a low-end WR3 this week.
