Fantasy football start/sit advice, Week 3: Can Charles Sims make an impact as a starter?

Due to injuries, Tampa Bay will roll with their backup running back as the starter this weekend vs. the Rams. We explore the fantasy implications.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will have Charles Sims as their top option in the backfield for Week 3. Sims will get the nod as the starter, but he is expected to split some of his touches with fellow backup running back Jacquizz Rodgers in the team’s matchup with the Los Angeles Rams this Sunday.

Fantasy Impact: Primarily used as the Bucs’ running back in passing situations, Sims will get the opportunity to show the rest of the league how he can make an impact as a starting running back for the next few weeks.

However, his first career start against the Rams will not be an easy one by any means. Los Angeles comes into Sunday’s game having not allowed an opposing running back to rush for 100 yards or more since Week 9 of last season. Their defense only allowed a total of two players to accomplish that feat through the entirety of 2015.

Sims’ best bet for success in Week 3 may come as a pass catcher out of the backfield rather than a runner. The Los Angeles defense seems to have a harder time with running backs who also have the ability to make plays as a receiver since they allowed eight backs to catch at least five passes during their matchups last year.

For fantasy owners, Sims seems at least seems like a logical flex option as Yahoo! projects the running back to gain 88 total yards on 17 touches against the Rams.
