Shane Vereen suffered triceps injury, season over for fantasy owners

The New York Giants announced that running back Shane Vereen is done for the year. We break down the fantasy implications.

The New York Giants announced a significant injury on Monday morning. Running back Shane Vereen will be placed on season-ending injured reserve (IR) due to a torn triceps. There was not indication of a major injury during the game, but his season is finished.

Fantasy implications: The Giants are dealing with multiple injuries to their running backs. Aside from Vereen, Rashad Jennings was inactive in Week 3 with a thumb injury. Jennings practiced all week, but was a last minute scratch. Jennings said after the game that the big concern was in pass protection and catching passes.

Vereen started in Jennings place, rushing 11 times for 67 yards and a touchdown, and catching two passes for 28 yards. Orleans Darkwa rotated in with Vereen, rushing 10 times for 53 yards and a touchdown, and catching one pass for 9 yards.

Jennings will likely be back in Week 4, but if not, Darkwa would likely get the start. The Giants spent a fifth-round pick on running back Paul Perkins, but he has been a healthy scratch. Vereen’s injury means Perkins could get a chance to be active.
