Jared Goff will not play in Week 1, remains off the fantasy radar

The top pick in this past spring’s NFL Draft will start the season in street clothes. We explore the fantasy implications.

Los Angeles Rams rookie quarterback Jared Goff will be inactive for the team’s Week 1 game against the San Francisco 49ers, according to NFL Network’s Steve Wyche on Tuesday. The Rams selected Goff with the first overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft this past spring.

Los Angeles coach Jeff Fisher spoke to Wyche on Tuesday and informed him that Sean Mannion will be the team’s backup quarterback against the 49ers and that punter Johny Hecker will be the Rams’ emergency quarterback.

Fantasy Impact: For 2016, Goff has very little value for fantasy owners. It is not hard to imagine why, since he will not even be active for his team’s first game of the season.

There is a possibility that he could end up with some significant playing time later this year. However, It is hard to imagine that the rookie will finish the season as one of the top producing fantasy quarterbacks.

Maybe next year, kid.
