Spencer Ware to play big Week 1 role, good fantasy option for owners in need of a RB

The Cheifs backup running back could end up having a large role in the team’s first game on Sunday. We explore the fantasy implications.

Kansas City Chiefs running back Spencer Ware will likely get a majority of the team’s carries in their Week 1 game against the San Diego Chargers this Sunday according to ESPN’s Mike Triplett. Ware is currently listed on the Chiefs’ unofficial depth chart as the team’s third running back, but the two players listed ahead of him (Jamaal Charles and Charcandrick West) are recovering from injuries.

Fantasy Impact: It is unusual for fantasy owners to already need help in the first week of the season, but for those who do, Ware could be a great option. Charles is not expected to play against the Chargers and if West ends up being active, his time on the field will likely be limited.

Ware may have more value in larger fantasy leagues that consist of at least 12 teams, but he could also be an option for fantasy owners who end up not liking their team’s current running back situation.

His availability or playing time past Week 1 is unknown, but for Kansas City’s game on Sunday, Ware has the potential to make a lot of fantasy owners pretty happy.
