Colin Kaepernick's protest made his jersey the No.1 seller. He says he's donating all the money

New, comments

Colin Kaepernick’s protest helped spur a necessary conversation while also vaulting his jersey from relative obscurity to the top-selling jersey in the NFL. Cynics have claimed his protest was done for attention, and that he should put his wallet where his mouth is by giving back. Now the 49ers quarterback is doing just that.

After learning his 49ers jersey had become the No. 1 seller, he went to Instagram and posted the following message.

“I want to thank everyone who has shown me love and support, it truly means a lot! I wasn't expecting my jersey sales to jump to number one because of this, but it shows the people's belief that we can achieve justice and equality for ALL! The only way I can repay you for the support is to return the favor by donating all the proceeds I receive from my jersey sales back into the communities! I believe in the people, and WE can be the change!”

Kaepernick will not directly make all the money from his jersey sale alone. Due to NFL revenue sharing it will be put in a pool with every jersey sale, which is then divided among NFL players. We assume that’s the money he will be giving to charity.

So if you’re keeping score at home:

We’ll wait to see what excuse is drawn up next.
