Packers wide receiver Davante Adams scored a touchdown to give Green Bay a 17-14 lead over the Detroit Lions in the third quarter of Sunday Night Football. It was an important score in a game that will decide the winner of the NFC North, and Adams was obviously pleased.
Adams celebrated, of course. He celebrated by dunking on the goalpost.
It wasn’t just your run-of-the-mill goal post dunk, though. It was a 360 dunk, and it was awesome, and the ref in the end zone threw a flag instantaneously. The NFL hates fun.
For what it’s worth, the NFL isn’t alone in hating fun.
To those complaining about goal post dunk penalty: You'd really be complaining if the game were delayed 25 minutes to fix the goal post.— ProFootballTalk (@ProFootballTalk) January 2, 2017
The league has said it will review its stance on celebrations this offseason. Perhaps the NFL will make the right call and stop penalizing players for enjoying themselves and being happy about their own success.
