If there were any questions about Sean Payton’s future in New Orleans, they might have just been answered with recent changes to the coaching staff.
Payton has fired five assistants on the team: Bill Johnson, Greg McMahon, Stan Kwan, James Willis, and Joe Vitt, according to Alex Marvez of Sporting News.
Vitt’s name will ring a bell the most out of the five, as he was Payton’s assistant since 2006, and was the team’s interim coach in 2012 when Payton was suspended for Bountygate. Vitt sat out the first six games of the regular season that year, and the Saints went 5-5 under his leadership.
McMahon and Kwan were special teams coaches, so it’s clear that the Saints want to improve in that area of the game. Kwan was in his fourth season with the team in 2016.
It’s going to be a very different looking sideline for the Saints in 2017.
