Odell Beckham Jr. goes on IR, will have surgery will have

Beckham was on the ground after having his ankle twisted.

Odell Beckham Jr. fractured his ankle during the fourth quarter of the Giants’ game against the Chargers. The Giants placed the wide receiver on injured reserve, and he will have surgery later this week:

Head coach Ben McAdoo spoke about the injury on Monday afternoon.

The Giants’ training staff brought out the cart, and he was taken off the field in tears. Earlier in the game, the Giants lost receivers Brandon Marshall, Dwayne Harris, and Sterling Shepard. Harris was also placed on IR.

Beckham was going up for a reception when a Chargers defender landed on his left ankle. It was the same ankle that Beckham injured in the preseason against the Browns. Beckham took a helmet to the knee, but his ankle was briefly caught in the turf, causing the initial injury.

Beckham came into Sunday’s game as the second-leading receiver on the team with 205 yards and two touchdown receptions. He had a game-leading 97 yards and a touchdown before he was injured.
