How Carlos Hyde reset his own destiny

By deciding to leave his hometown and live with his grandmother, Carlos Hyde might have changed his future.

After a standout career at Ohio State University, Carlos Hyde has established a reputation as one of the NFL's toughest runners to bring down with the San Francisco 49ers. But how did he reach these levels of success in football?

Born and raised in Lincoln Heights, a rough suburb of Cincinnati, Hyde was constantly surrounded by violence and drugs growing up. After seeing so many of his childhood friends wind up killed or in jail, Hyde made the decision to get out of a dangerous environment and push the reset button on his life. At the age of 15, he moved to Naples, Fla. to live with his grandmother -- it was there at Naples High School that Hyde rediscovered his passion for football and realized that could be a vehicle for a brighter future.

This is the story of Carlos and those close to him talking about the long, winding path he took to achieve his NFL dreams.
