Update: Newton the Brussels Griffon was named Best in Show at this year's National Dog Show.
The Kennel Club of Philadelphia’s National Dog Show will be broadcast by NBC beginning at 12 p.m. ET on Thursday, Thanksgiving day. The event will follow the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, and features some of the best-looking and well trained dogs competing for the coveted Best in Show award. The live stream of the event can be had via NBC Live.
The dogs compete in separate groups consisting of herding, hound, sporting, non-sporting, terrier, toy, and working breeds. The winner from each breed will earn the Best in Breed award, and will advance to the group stage. One dog from each pool will then be chosen to compete for the Best in Show award.
That’s the top honor in the competition, with the last winner being Gia, a greyhound. A breed hasn’t repeated as winner the past several years, not since the wire fox terrier won in 2011 and 2012.
The National Dog show is one of three major dog shows in the United States alongside the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship and the Westminster Dog Show.
The show actually took place on November 18-19, but the results are always withheld for the live event on Thanksgiving Day. Below is all you need to know to watch the broadcast on Thursday, on TV and via live streaming.
