Most fake punts are direct snaps to a player who takes off and runs. On rare occasion, a punter gets a chance to try and throw for a first down.
Baltimore Ravens punter Sam Koch got the ultra rare chance to actually throw relatively deep in a game against the Houston Texans. On a fake in the second quarter, Koch lobbed a ball about 30 yards in the air to Chris Moore for a 22-yard gain and a first down.
Two plays later, the Ravens got on the board with a 10-yard run for Buck Allen that tied the game, 7-7.
With the Ravens struggling offensively, Koch’s throw was one of, if not, the best play of the game so far for Baltimore.
