With the San Francisco 49ers just over three minutes away from an 0-9 start to the 2017 season, things got chippy between the team and the visiting Arizona Cardinals.
Cardinals safety Antoine Bethea picked up an unnecessary roughness call for a hit on 49ers quarterback C.J. Beathard, who dangerously slid late. The pushing and shoving that ensued devolved into a mess that got three players ejected.
When the dust settled, 49ers running back Carlos Hyde was ejected along with Cardinals defenders Haason Reddick and Frostee Rucker.
Fighting has been a theme in Week 9 with Jalen Ramsey and A.J. Green both ejected for a scrap earlier in the day, and Mike Evans coming to the defense of Jameis Winston with a cheap shot on Marshon Lattimore.
The offsetting unsportsmanlike conduct penalties on Hyde, Reddick, and Rucker all cancelled out, but the unnecessary roughness on Bethea was enforced. It gave the 49ers a chance to score and cut into a 20-10 lead, but the drive ended with an interception for Beathard.
Its been a frustrating season for both the 49ers and the Cardinals, and a lot of that bubbled to the surface Sunday.
