NBA stars and celebrities helped donate $500,000 to Craig Sager’s Sager Strong Foundation with an impromptu three-point shooting contest after the Three Point Contest at All-Star weekend on Saturday.
Reggie Miller explained the purpose of the event, to collect players and celebs onto the court attempting to make as many threes as they could in a minute. Each three sent $10,000 to the Sager Foundation, and they made 13 of them total.
Miller, Candace Parker, newly minted Three Point Contest champion Eric Gordon and others all participated. Even DJ Khaled hit a three — there’s video proof!
Because they were short of their goal, Stephen Curry was recruited from the sidelines. After saying he could knock down a half-courter in three attempts, he failed to make one with about 10 attempts. Instead, one of Sager’s young sons pushed the total to half a million with a Shaquille O’Neal-assisted slam dunk.
This was an amazing gesture from TNT and the NBA in support of the late Craig Sager, who always made us smile even in his darkest hour. We didn’t know we were getting this event during All-Star weekend, but honestly, maybe this should always happen from now on.
