Keeping up with all those rumors can be overwhelming, but luckily for Garoppolo, his mom is on top of it.
“My mom loves telling me the news updates, so she’s all over that stuff, but it’s been working really well,” Garoppolo told ESPN’s Adam Schefter on a podcast Tuesday, via USA Today. “She could be your assistant. She’s all over the place. Her and my dad on Twitter and stuff like that — I don’t even think they know how to tweet, but they always have something going on.”
If that sounds like a whole lot of texts from mom blowing up his phone, Garoppolo says it’s not the case.
“They know what to hit me with and what to keep quiet,” Garoppolo said. “They know me so well that they know what I’d like to hear and what I don’t need to hear. There’s a couple slip-ups here and there, I’m not going to lie to you, but they’re just so excited about it. It’s an exciting time, and they’re loving it.”
Garoppolo, 25, started two games for the Patriots in 2016 while Brady served a suspension at the beginning of the season due to Deflategate. The 2014 second-round pick suffered a shoulder injury that kept him from starting in all four games, but in his time on the field he tallied 502 passing yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions.
Ben Volin of The Boston Globe speculated that Garoppolo could fetch an early second-round pick for the Patriots and teams like the Cleveland Browns, Chicago Bears, or San Francisco 49ers could be in the running. The Houston Chronicle also said the Houston Texans could be another possible trade destination for Garoppolo.
If Garoppolo does get traded, his mom will certainly be one of the first in the know.
