Jimmy Garoppolo’s cryptic goodbye post to New England was a hack

Less than 24 hours into the start free agency, and right around the time when the entire NFL world was trying to get 20 minutes of REM sleep, a cryptic message on Jimmy Garoppolo’s Instagram was posted.

“So grateful for my time in New England. Peace out Boston,” it read.

The image was later deleted Friday morning.

So, uh, did Garoppolo just get traded in the middle of the night? Or is he pulling off a rather mean, if impressive, troll job? Or maybe his password is “TomBradyfan1” and he got hacked.

Oh right. It was probably that last one:

So far, probably because the sun hasn’t come up yet, there’s no word from the Patriots or Garoppolo. But here’s what we do know:

  1. The Browns are the team most likely to try to trade for Garoppolo.
  2. The Patriots are not going to trade Garoppolo for anything less than a 2017 first-round pick and maybe even a 2018 first-round pick.
  3. The Texans dumped off Brock Osweiler to the Browns and also sent them a 2018 second-round pick.
  4. The Browns were waaaaay more excited about that pick than they were about Osweiler, who they will probably release.
  5. The Browns have two 2017 first-round picks, two 2017 second-round picks, one 2018 first-round pick, and three 2018 second-round picks.
  6. After the Osweiler trade, Ian Rapoport said that the Browns “intend to make a run at” Garoppolo.
  7. This was probably a hack. Go back to bed, everyone.
  8. Yup, it was hack and now we’re all tired. Way to go, Elliot Alderson, I presume:
