Giancarlo Stanton’s World Baseball Classic home run went very, very far

The ball might not have landed yet.

Giancarlo Stanton obliterated a baseball on Saturday night at Petco Park, electrifying the World Baseball Classic.

Stanton’s two-run shot off the Western Metal Supply building in left field gave Team USA a 4-2 lead against the Dominican Republic, in the same stadium where Stanton won the Home Run Derby last July. The Miami Marlins slugger was just 1-for-10 with a double and three walks in the tournament before Saturday night.

The ball was launched like a rocket, and it had a speed roughly equivalent to spacecraft:

This United States beat the Dominican Republic 6-3 on Saturday, advancing out of Pool F to play in the WBC semifinals in Los Angeles.
