Marlins have to stay in Delaware because NFL rented out all Philadelphia hotels

It’s NFL Draft week in Philadelphia, and the city is packed with football teams. Even though that is an important event, other sports have to go on.

Unfortunately for MLB, the NFL got all the hotels in the city, forcing the Miami Marlins to stay in a hotel in Wilmington, Del. for their series against this Philadelphia Phillies this weekend.

This is Philly.

This is Wilmington.

They’re staying in the Hotel DuPont. This is the second time an MLB team has stayed there, according to Delaware Online. The last time was in 2008 when the Rays had to stay there because of a rain out.

The Marlins have been on the road for weeks and are probably tired, but hopefully they can rest outside the hustle the draft will bring to Philadelphia.

Monday was the off day this week, but the Marlins were already in Wilmington. Manager Don Mattingly was staying in Delaware for the first time.

Here’s what he told Delaware Online:

"It was a good sleep day [Monday]," Mattingly said. "A good day to sleep. Not quite as much to do in downtown [Wilmington] than Philly. But again, it was a good day to get some rest and get back on track to East Coast time from our trip."

And rest they did, apparently.
