The Evo Championship Series has been running for more than a decade, and its worldwide exposure is only growing. It’s the world’s biggest fighting game tournament, with the best esports players in the world congregating in one place to do battle for glory and prizes.
On Sunday, the Super Smash Bros. for Wii U Top 8 finals will be broadcast on television for the first time. They will begin at 6 p.m. ET and will be broadcast by both Disney XD and ESPNU. Online streaming of that coverage can be had via WatchESPN and the ESPN App.
Other streams of all the games at the tournament, including Street Fighter V, Tekken 7, and even the coverage mentioned above can be found via Twitch.tv. There have been running live streams for the past couple days, and the Super Smash Bros. for Wii U finals are the second-biggest event of the show.
The Street Fighter V Top 8 finals are the main event, and they will take place at 10 p.m. ET on ESPN2, with the same live streaming information as above.
Super Smash Bros. is a series published by Nintendo, and its one of their only forays into serious competitive gaming. When the first game launched on the Nintendo 64, it wasn’t considered much more than a party game. It isn’t a standard fighting game by any means, and that led many to criticize it in the competitive scene.
But the release of Super Smash Bros. Melee for the Gamecube changed things. It was still an unconventional game for fighting game tournaments, but it grew massively in popularity. Super Smash Bros. for Wii U is the fourth main entry in the series and the most technically impressive.
Sunday’s action should be exciting to watch, and if it does well on TV and online, we’ll only see more and more esports coverage in the future. Below is all you need to now to watch the action on Sunday.
